Stryker has announced that Kevin Lobo is to take on the role of group president of its orthopaedics division, effective as of June 13th 2011.

Mr Lobo joined the company from Johnson and Johnson in April 2011 as group president for the neurotechnology and spine business unit.

He assumes the position vacated by Michael Mogul - who has been appointed chief executive officer of DJO Global - and takes responsibility for Stryker's reconstructive, trauma, craniomaxillofacial, joint preservation, extremities and orthobiologics units.

In the new role, he will continue to report to chairman, president and chief executive officer Stephen MacMillan, who expressed confidence in his proven business acumen.

"His extensive experience with globally diversified medical technology companies is a key skill set that we have already seen during his tenure at Stryker," Mr MacMillan said.

Last month, Stryker agreed a deal to purchase fellow medical device manufacturer Orthovita, a move that will expand its presence in the orthopaedics market.
