Bayer recalls testing strips

Pharmaceutical Company Product News

Pharmaceutical giant Bayer has moved to recall a diabetes testing product because of concerns about a possible manufacturing problem affecting seven countries.

It is feared the problem could cause the testing strips that work with the Contour TS blood glucose meter to give higher than accurate blood sugar readings.

The company has already identified and rectified the problem in its manufacturing process and believes only 230,000 bottles of strips have been affected.

However, it has opted to recall the strips in the US, France, Austria, Turkey, Korea, India and Mexico.

The manufacturing problem has not affected any of the Bayer diabetes test strip or meter products on sale within the UK market.

Bayer Healthcare sells its diabetes products under the brand name Ascensia in the UK.

It claims it has developed a wide range of user-friendly products, which include the Contour and Breeze testing devices, by working in partnership with both diabetes sufferers and medical professionals.
