Medical Affairs Manager

Job Title: Medical Affairs Manager

Location: Surrey

Reports To: Head of Regulatory

Job Purpose

The Medical Affairs Manager will support and, where required, initiate key growth product / franchise development programmes in accordance with the marketing strategy for the Respiratory business. The Medical Affairs Manager will also be responsible for approval and certification of marketing materials in line with the ABPI Code of Practice.

Major Accountabilities
" Communicates with and influences key physicians, nurses and other opinion leaders within the UK - creates and maintains personal contact network throughout the region and respond to individual queries from outside physicians.
" Attends different clinics within the region to discuss clinical practice and therapy development.
" Ensures effective and credible communication of clinical data on all Respiratory products to medical personnel, including the Sandoz Respiratory 'story'.
" Initiate and maintain local IST's.
" Works in conjunction with Global Medical Affairs on all Global studies and ensures there is good UK representation within these trials, with a spread across the UK
" Acts as a guide / mentor / tutor / speaker and lobbyist within the UK.
" Supports the therapy / clinical and sales group to achieve the account business and therapy targets.
" Solicits external trials, tests and clinical study requests and helps to meet these requests / protocols and development accordingly.
" Represents Sandoz and acts as expert speaker at nurse and physician regional and national congresses and education programmes for the region.
" Works closely with the Respiratory and Marketing teams to build marketing campaigns, prepare launches, re-launches, PR activities, case histories etc.
" Organises national or regional meetings, such as: university staff meetings, regional or national scientific meetings and educational programmes, symposia, etc.
" Presentation of clinical data in a non-sales setting, eg SMC, advisory boards, local formulary areas such as London new drugs group, through to PCT or strategic health authority discussions where a more in-depth discussion of clinical data is required.
" Supports formulary application to expedite formulary uptake.
" Public affairs work with the Government, institutions such as the National Prescribing Centre, UK Medicines Information Pharmacists and Patient groups.
" Liaises with and presents to clinicians and authorities at NICE to ensure credible challenges are made.
" Dealing with any ABPI complaints whether against Sandoz, or challenges on breaches we may make to other companies.

Key Performance Indicators
" A significant increase in the uptake of Sandoz branded Respiratory medication within the UK
" Ability to understand Sandoz's business needs (short to long term) and support the strategic and focused approach.
" Actively and pro-actively participates in the implementation of the division's long and short-term business strategies to optimise markets for future and current products.
" Actively drives and conducts clinical trials (if needed) to support successful product or therapy launches.
" Maintains knowledge base as to developments and trends in medical sciences.
" Develops and maintains effective KOL network.
" Contributes to the training, leadership and continuing education for all departmental staff.

Person Profil


Education :
" UK Registered Pharmacist (preferred) or working towards final sign off of all materials to ABPI standard
" A degree in Life Sciences or related subject ideally with some form of marketing qualifications. CIM/ MBA
" Qualified to approve promotional materials and events in accordance with the ABPI Code of Practice

" Experience of reviewing and approving promotional materials and events in accordance with the ABPI Code of Practice.
" Able to see the detailed NHS / funding level and the "big picture" - franchise development
" Experience of national / regional medical and clinical projects
" Proven ability to execute clinical programs when and where required.
" Preferably 2 years previous Respiratory experience, including some hands-on involvement.

- First interview with Head of Department and HR
- Second interview involving presentation & SHL testing
- Third interview with CEO
