Medical and Scientific Services Team Leader

Title: Medical and Scientific Services Team Leader

Reporting to Unit Manager

Key objective:
To lead the strategic editorial development and co-ordinate implementation of client communication programmes (to Integrated Product Programme `IPP` level), with a focus on marketing strategy, key messages, content and overall quality of all educational materials, in conjunction with relevant colleagues within the agency business units and external contacts.

Key duties:
-Develop and implement strategic communication plans in close collaboration with client/agency account teams.
-Line management responsibilities for team members within the defined editorial account team, including writing and support staff. Specific line management responsibilities will be performed in conjunction with Unit Manager, M&SS (e.g., performance grading, disciplinary)
-Work closely with Unit Manager, M&SS/M&SS Division Manager to plan resource to match programme needs.
-Act as the primary editorial contact for the account team on large programmes (IPP level) or a number of medium-sized accounts.
-Design, develop, implement and manage publication plans.
-Research, write (project briefs and actual project), edit and proof copy to the highest standard (scientific and grammatical) for a full range of educational materials and target audiences.
-Manage/co-ordinate materials through company internal/client/speaker approval, creative/design/production to print, according to company procedures.
-Check proofs and printer’s proofs (text, layout, colour, specification) and sign-off for print/production.
-Accurate/precise implementation of client/author corrections.
-Provide on-site support to meet the client’s needs, e.g., on-site writing/editing, video interviewing, faculty support, competitor intelligence gathering, and moderating meetings.
-Make presentations to clients/speakers/third party organisations.
-Mentor Medical Writers working on client programme and train Associate Medical Writers.
-Develop Editors/M&SS Assistants.
-Provide therapy area advice/expertise/consultancy in areas of main strength (internally and externally).
-Establish/develop and maintain client and opinion leader relationships.
-Quality Control checking of copy for other Medical Writers across department.
-Utilise and manage freelance and contract freelance assistance (commissioning/briefing freelancers).
-Proactively develop new business for existing and new clients. Develop new ideas/products for agency to add to our portfolio. Assist New Business department with new pitches/presentations.
-Implement the editorial programme according to the budgeted hours and deadlines agreed. -Monitor and feedback progress to editorial colleagues and account teams.

Candidates should be educated to degree level or higher in a biomedical science, with several years’ writing experience in a communications agency environment or equivalent, including experience of good multidisciplinary teamwork

-Good understanding and implementation of agency operating procedures.
-Good knowledge of print/production procedures.
-Good knowledge of a number of therapeutic areas and therapies, plus the pharmaceutical industry.
-Familiar with code of practice guidelines for medical copy/copyright issues.
-Familiar with drug development regulatory guidelines/issues.
-Presentation, interview and appraisal skills.
-Budgetary awareness.

Person Profil

Candidates:

* MUST be educated to at least degree level in Biomedical science - ideally higher degree.
* MUST have extensive medical writing experience from a Healthcare/Medical Communications agency.
* Experience of good multidisciplinary teamwork


Ideally :
We are looking for a senior person looking to take next step into Team Leader position or a Team Leader with some experience but is happy to remain in position for at least 18 months.

Therapy area - an interest/expertise in CNS, anti infectives, antithrombotics, GI would be good but not a necessity. We are looking for a person with leadership skills and strong agency background / good general scientific understanding
