The effects of the Agriculture Bill on Farmers
The majority of 2020 involved casting a dark shadow over the world’s economy and many sectors suffered in the midst of mass lockdowns, lost business and a dismal recovery plan. However, there was some good news to end the year on, and it’s gotten farmers quite excited.

November marked the Agriculture Bill finally becoming law in the UK – and it’s been a significant step in the right direction for the farming community. The legislation lays out how farmers and land managers will be compensated with public funds for public goods, rewarding them adequately for the good work they do and motivating them to work even more competitively.
The Environment Secretary George Eustice said: “Our landmark Agriculture Act will transform the way we support farmers [helping in] reducing their costs and improving their profitability, to help those who want to retire or leave the industry to do so with dignity, and to create new opportunities and support for new entrants coming into the industry.”
It certainly demonstrates the value placed on farmers and the reliance our society has on the goods and services they provide. At a particularly difficult time for so many, extra support and financial aid is sure to be well-received and an encouraging sign going forward.
